Report from the July 8th Summerfest plus the full-length

Starting last year Florida activists have been hosting
a “Summer Solstice Festival” or as the last
one was labeled a “Summerfest”. The idea
for it was actually first discussed at a Winter Solstice
party, something Florida activists have been hosting
for a decade. Winter Solstice parties were always small
and informal, so the idea for the Summer Solstice was
something a bit larger, more elaborate, and better planned,
with performers and speakers. The first summer event,
hosted on June 18th of 2005, was the largest and best
planned event we had ever held up to that date –
this one surpassed last year’s by a long shot.

The normal weather for a Florida summer is blazing
heat and killer humidity – with a few raging thunderstorms
that just kind of pass through and dump enough water
to keep the humidity high enough to amaze non-Floridians.
During the last summer event in 2005, which was held
outdoors, the weather was simply miraculous. There was
a thick cloud cover and a comfortable breeze which kept
the temperature almost pleasant. It was a stroke of
good luck I won’t forget anytime soon.

Fortunately, we decided not to roll the dice again
this year – after viewing weather reports calling
for temperatures in the 90s and a 60% chance of Florida’s
trademark thundershowers. For that reason, the venue
was switched to an indoor location about three days
before the July 8th set date. This turned out to be
a good idea since it was indeed very hot that day and
there were a few storms in the area. The hotel ballroom
provided a much more comfortable setting for all of
the guests, speakers, and musicians. It also made video
and audio recording a lot easier.

Being indoors with vendor’s tables lining the
walls, and with enough people in attendance
to fill the room, the summer festival became more of
a summer conference in some ways. Holding the event
at a hotel allowed for a few small, late-night parties
that lasted into the early hours of the mourning –
a favorite activity for many. This was actually the
first large event we have hosted under the Nationalist
Coalition banner.
Our keynote speaker was Edgar Steele with a lineup
of musicians which included a special guest performer
from Texas, Prussian Blue, and Richard from the band

Eastern States coordinator Todd Weingart and our Operations

Many of those in attendance couldn’t help but
to notice the cameras and recording equipment that was
set up around the stage. Some people have already inquired
about video and audio productions, so I’ll address
that subject now. A video package of the performances
at the event as well as interviews taken the day before
is being edited now and will be available in the online
store soon. At first I was going to put the video in
CD format for cost savings and production simplicity
but to get the content and quality we’re looking
for it may have to go on DVD.

The audio recording of Edgar Steele’s speech

know, Edgar Steele does not hold any kind of membership
or official affiliation with any organization and, as
Mr. Steele stated in his speech, no one agrees with
anyone on absolutely everything. This is of course true
for the Nationalist Coalition regarding some points
raised in his keynote speech. While we may not agree
with Mr. Steele on everything, he is our trusted friend
and we look forward to working with him again in the
near future.
Large conferences and festivals are not cheap or easy
to put together. This only happened because of the hard
work and generous contributions from several activists.
We would also like to thank all of the people who did
not hesitate to pitch in and make July 8th a success.
